Doolin has had a living musical heritage for many decades. Music, singing, dancing and storytelling have always formed the fabric of the community.
Doolin is internationally renowned for its music with many famous names and faces playing here over the years. This is thanks to the earlier generations of musicians from the area. Most famous of these perhaps is the Russell brothers Micho, Gussie and Pakie. Musicians and visitors alike have made Doolin what it is today - a great place to have a few tunes!
Hotel Doolin has fast become a music mainstay in the village and is dedicated to bringing the finest traditional music sessions and live music to Doolin from local, national and international musicians and singers.
Music in Fitzpatrick's Bar
Live trad sessions are played nightly in high season in Fitz's Bar and Friday to Monday night in winter months. Come and meet the locals and join in on one of their sessions. Let the traditional music carry you away, your feet will tap to the beat and your voice will sing along with excitement, qualities that traditional music brings out in all of us.
The Wild Atlantic Session:
Monday night in Fitz’s bar has become a very special night of music. The Wild Atlantic Session is an intimate music session led by renowned musicians Eoin O’Neill, Quintan Cooper and Jon O’Connell.
They are joined by a host of special guest musicians and singers including the great Luka Bloom who joins them most Monday nights. It is a night of great tunes and a special vibe-from 9.30pm.
Russell Memorial Weekend Festival
The Russell Memorial Weekend takes place on the last weekend in February each year.
The weekend attracts musicians & trad music lovers from all over the world, with workshops, concerts and lectures throughout the weekend. Many of which are held in Hotel Doolin. Follow the link for more information on the Russell Memorial Weekend.
Doolin Folk Festival
The First Doolin Folk Festival took place in June 2013 and was a huge success. It takes place in the Marquee on the lawn of Hotel Doolin, one mile from the location of the famous Lisdoonvarna Festival of the late 1970’s & early 1980’s. Now in its third year The Doolin Folk Festival features traditional and folk musicians who have had a connection with the area over the years as well as up-and-coming, cutting-edge folk and Trad acts. The line up to date has included Luka Bloom, Martin Hayes, Donal Lunny, John Spillane, Steve Cooney, I Draw Slow, Damien Dempsey, Solas, Kila, Lisa O’Neill, Mick Flannery, Declan O'Rourke, Sharon Shannon, Hothouse Flowers, Wallis Bird, Jerry Fish to name just a few. 2017 festival will run from 16th -18th June 2016.
